2015 Brannen Creative Writing Award winners announced
The Georgia Southern University Department of Writing and Linguistics is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Brannen Creative Writing Awards:
- The winner for poetry is Sierra Moore, for a collection of poems.
- The winner in fiction is Jonathan Baker, for the story “Anderson Price.”
- The winner in creative nonfiction is Caleigh Shaw, for the piece “Dirty.”
The winners receive a cash award of $500 and recognition at the 2015 Brannen Creative Writing Award ceremony and reading, to be held in January 2016.
The Brannen Creative Writing Awards are offered by the Department of Writing and Linguistics to encourage and recognize excellence in creative writing. The annual competition is open to any student who is (1) majoring in Writing and Linguistics, minoring in one of its fields, or concentrating in Writing through the Bachelor of General Studies program and (2) a first-year student or a sophomore (accrued no more than 60 credit hours) at the time that the creative piece is submitted for consideration is eligible.
The Department of Writing and Linguistics is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is the largest of the eight colleges that make up Georgia Southern University, and it plays a central role in every student’s core of knowledge. CLASS, also described as the University’s College of the Creative Mind, prepares students to achieve academic excellence, develop their analytical skills, enhance their creativity, and embrace their responsibilities as citizens of their communities, their nations, and the world.
