Georgia Southern University, classified as a doctoral/research institution by the Carnegie Foundation of Advancement and Teaching, is a member institution of the University System of Georgia. As one of Georgia’s premier universities—the largest and most comprehensive research institution in southeast Georgia—the university is a residential campus serving more than 20,500 students.

Founded in 1906, the University offers more than 100 campus-based and online degree programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels through eight colleges. Georgia Southern is recognized for providing all of the benefits of a major university with the feeling of a much smaller college. The more than 900-acre, park-like campus is located in Statesboro, a classic Main Street community near historic Savannah and Hilton Head Island.
