Alumna featured artist at Mudfire in Atlanta
Mudfire Presents Resident Amy Roberson
“Lamp,” Amy Roberson
Amy (Bryan) Roberson, 3D Studio Arts alumna, is a continuing resident artist at Mudfire. She is from Ellijay, Georgia, a small town in the foothills of the Appalachians. In 2013, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Georgia Southern University and soon joined the Mudfire family.
Amy’s work is inspired by the entanglement of youth and adulthood, visualized through mid century ideals and rave culture influences. Though these symbols of adulthood and youth seem distantly separated, their meaning and representations are combined in each piece to show the impossibility of their division. While the colorful influence of each can easily be seen, it takes a moment to understand the expectations and rewards each side involves. Mid century aesthetics represent many forces ranging from concern with public image, to the unattainability of the ideal lifestyle. Rave culture is idealistic in its own sense, the symbolism of youth and excitement is joyful, but in reality it is only an escape from the everyday norms we all create. The work in this exhibition shows the beginning of the exploration between these two symbolic forces and all they represent.
