Students Art Featured In Savannah’s Blick Gallery
Savannah’s Blick Gallery presents Ovation, an exhibition showcasing Georgia Southern University’s Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art’s visual art scholarship and award recipients for the 2014-2015 academic year, from September 1-30. The exhibition includes a closing reception on September 26 at 6 p.m. in the gallery.
Awardees Brittni Favorite, Claudia Furlow, D’Antre Harris, Emily Oren, Ruth Patel, Ray Pettit and Whitney Reddish are featured in the exhibition, which includes their works in drawing, sculpture, painting, graphic design and jewelry.
“We are so excited to introduce Savannah to the best of the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art. Ovation is going to be a fabulous exhibit,” said Professor Elsie Taliaferro Hill.
The Department of Art awarded the following visual art scholarships and awards: Carolyn Joyner Memorial Scholarship, Eagle Nation on Parade Scholarship, Peter Smith Memorial Graphic Design Scholarship, Robert J. Focht Memorial Drawing Scholarship, Rosalind D. Ragans Art Scholarship, Roxie Remley Master of Fine Arts Scholarship, and four Betty Foy Sanders Scholarships. The criteria for receiving these competitive awards reflect the student’s academic achievement and creative performance while enrolled at the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art at Georgia Southern University.
“What a great opportunity to showcase the artistic accomplishments of our scholarship recipients at the Blick Gallery. We couldn’t be more proud!” said Julie McGuire, Ph.D, professor and visual art scholarship director.
This is the first year Georgia Southern’s visual art scholarship recipients have been featured in a collective exhibition, and the Department plans to continue this initiative by securing gallery space in Savannah for years to come.
The Blick Gallery is located inside Blick Art Materials at 318 East Broughton Street in Savannah and is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. -8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Blick Art Materials, a leading provider of art materials, is a long-time supporter and advocate for the Arts and continues to be involved in many national and local initiatives to support art and offset budget constraints in schools and communities.
