Collaborative cross media artwork goes on display in England
Collaborative artwork by BFSDoArt MFA Candidates Virginia Russell and Janet Suarez along with Sheffield Hallam University’s Sophie Piearcey.
During the spring semester, Master of Fine Arts candidates from the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) began working with photographers across the globe. In conjunction with his study aboard opportunity this summer, New Media Professor Derek Larson created the collaboration with Mart Photography students of Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) in England.
The project grouped six of SHU’s students with 12 two-dimensional and three-dimensional artists from the BFSDoArt to share ideas, influences and work in the creation of cross media artwork to go on display internationally. Students communicated through email, Skype and social networking to conceptualize and create their artwork. Once completed, BFSDoArt students shipped their work to Sheffield for exhibition.
The first show opened on July 9 at the Mezzanine Gallery Workstation. A second exhibition will take place during the fall semester at SHU. After the final England exhibition closes, the artwork will travel to Statesboro, where it will go on display in Spring 2014.
Exhibiting artists from the BFSDoArt include: Anthony Faris, Claudia Furlow, Scott Foxx, Mike Lesh, Ruth Patel, Max Rebel, Kim Riner, Virginia Russell and Janet Suarez.
Larson and Andrew Robinson, senior lecturer of photography at SHU, served as the project tutors.
