Why study Spanish for Business? A global economy requires global capabilities from all individuals involved not only in business and international trade, but in practically any profession or career either in the private or public sector. Because of the increasing demand for human resources to serve both Service and Manufacturing Industries locally, nationally, and internationally in the Southeast area, the Department of Foreign Languages at Georgia Southern is pleased to announce the Spanish for Business Minor. The Department is offering you the opportunity to combine classroom, applied, and practical training in language and culture in Spanish to help you better prepare for success in any region within the United States or even abroad as our country increasingly grows more multicultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-linguistic. Provides a basic foundation in vocabulary and discourse related to functional business areas, practice in carrying out typical business transactions in Spanish, and practice in writing commercial documents in Spanish, including translation and interpreting activities. 3 semester hours. (Taught in Spanish) Study of basic foundation in vocabulary and discourse related to functional technology in business, and industry in today's global society. Researching, creating and applying technologies used in the business world. 3 semester hours. (Taught in Spanish) An advanced level of commercial Spanish vocabulary and discourse related to functional business areas and situational practice for success in the Spanish speaking business world. 3 semester hours. (Taught in Spanish) A continuation of the study of basic foundation in vocabulary and discourse related to functional business areas and situational practice for success in the Spanish speaking business world. 3 semester hours. (Taught in Spanish) Introduction to comparative stylistics through translations. Comparative study of characteristic modes of expressions, introduction to the theoretical aspects and techniques of translation, using a variety of commercial documents in business and industry. 3 semester hours. (Taught in Spanish) Reading in the social, economic and political changes of the Hispanic world through essays, novels, plays, short stories and poems. 3 semester hours. (Taught in Spanish) This course is designed to provide a uniquely hands-on experience which entails student creation of a company and subsequent product development, marketing and production for a profit. 3 semester hours.
