History

Phi Mu Fraternity, originally called the Philomathean Society, was founded at Wesleyan college in Macon, GA on January 4, 1852.  The fraternity became Phi Mu on October 4, 1904.  Her three founders were Mary Dupont Lines, Martha Hardaway Redding, and Mary Myrick Daniels.  There are three ideals on which this fraternity was founded; love, honor, and truth.  You can see these ideals displayed throughout phi mu and her members.  Over the years Phi Mu has grown from the three founders to over 140,000 current members.  Phi Mu is the second oldest women's fraternity and is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference.

                                                                                     Phi Mu Creed:

To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.  To think of God as a protector and guide of us all.  To keep forever sacred the memory of those we have loved and lost.  To be to others what we would they would be to us.  To keep our lives gentle, merciful, and just, thus being true to the womanhood of love.
To walk in the way of honor guarding the purity of our thoughts and deeds.  Being steadfast in every duty small or large.  Believing that our given word is binding.  Striving to esteem the inner man above culture, wealth, or pedigree.  Being honorable, courteous, tender, thus being true to the womanhood of honor.
To serve in the light of truth, avoiding egotism, narrowness, or scorn.  To give freely of our sympathies.  To revernce God as our maker striving to serve him in all things.  To minister to the needy and unfortunate.  To practice day by day love, honor, truth, thus keeping true to the meaning, spirit, and reality of Phi Mu.

"From the outside looking in, you can never understand the love of our chapter and from the inside looking out you can never fully explain it!" unknown

We are the Kappa Mu chapter of Phi Mu and we came to Georgia Southern in 1968.  We currently have over 120 members in our chapter.  We won Sorority of The Year for 2005 and 2006 along with 2004 and 2005 Greek Woman of the year recipients.  These are only a few of our many accomplishments.
