| Intent |
|
The intention of this proposal is to have Apple's Mac Mini added to the
Georgia Southern University Auxiliary Services Standard Workstation
Hardware Purchasing List. The current standard is the Gateway E-4500D.
It is important to emphasize the the Mac Mini is not being suggested as
the new standard or a replacement for the E-4500D; however it is the
opinion of the author that the Mac Mini is a viable option, especially
for those Auxiliary Services departments that are concerned about
budget needs. With the release of Apple's Boot Camp software, it is now
possible to run Windows XP on an Intel® based Mac such as the Mac
Mini. This new software makes the Mac Mini a valid entry in Auxiliary
Services' Hardware Purchasing List. The Boot Camp software's ability to
run a Windows environment means that there would be no troubleshooting
necessary to get our current software roster to run on the Mac Mini. |

| Evaluation |
This proposal has evaluated the Mac Mini's addition to the Auxiliary
Services' Hardware Purchasing List using three seperate questions:
- How does the Mac Mini compare to the current standard?
- How has the Mac Mini hardware been reviewed?
- How has Apple's Boot Camp software been reviewed?
