Join us for National Day on Writing activities

The Department of Writing & Linguistics will be hosting multiple events on campus Tuesday, October 20, to commemorate National Day on Writing. These events are open to all majors, minors, and students interested in Writing & Linguistics.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., representatives from The Department of Writing & Linguistics will be at tables located at Russell Union Rotunda and between Newton & Carroll Buildings. At each table, students are encouraged to get information on spring 2016 writing courses, learn the benefits of majoring and minoring in Writing and Linguistics, test their skills at language play, and add their thoughts to the ongoing, campus-wide conversation on why we write. There is also a Halloween Horror Contest, featuring a $50 gift card to the University Bookstore for the student who writes the best horror story in 140 (or fewer) characters. Click here for more details about the Halloween Horror Contest.

The Department of Writing & Linguistics will conclude the National Day on Writing with a mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. in Newton 2207. This event is open to all majors, minors, and students interested in Writing & Linguistics. The two-hour event will feature word games and creative thinking prompts as well as information about the department’s programs and course offerings. Faculty will be available to answer questions or talk with students about the department. Complimentary pizza and soft drinks will be available.

For more information about this event, please contact Peggy Lindsey. More information and coverage on the NDoW events can also be found in this George-Anne article.

The Department of Writing and Linguistics is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Georgia Southern’s College of the Creative Mind. CLASS prepares its students to achieve academic excellence, develop their analytical skills, enhance their creativity, and embrace their responsibilities as citizens of their communities, nations, and world.
