History and Culture

  • Mundo Maya Magazine: articles and information on the history, culture, arte, festivales and life of the Mayan people.
  • Voces: this bilingual newsletter offers a variety of articles addressing politics, ecology, development and cultural perspectives of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and Central America.
  • Museo del Prado: one of Spain's most famous musuems offers online tours of its collection and other museum information.
  • Spanish Arts.com: many famous Spanish paintings found here. Click on the image for a larger view and commentary on the work.
  • Museo Virtual de Artes El País: this is a 10 on the "Way Cool" scale. You need at least Netscape 3.0 for this 3D virtual tour of culture. This site is sponsored by el País and has links in the newspaper as well.
  • Museo Virtual: this virtual museum features the works of Goya, Picasso, and Velazquez. View and compare their works and read their biographies to enter the minds of these great artists.
  • Sí, España : links to information on everyday life, history, geography, language and culture in Spain.
  • Spanish Culture: film, museums, dance, chat, and more. Choose your topic, it's all here in one place.

 Music, Radio, Television, and Cinema
  • El Rincón Musical Peruano: links to a variety of music, articles and music history. Word of warning, many of the pages have background music with no way to turn it off.
  • Caracol: with the RealAudio plugin you can hear the news live on Colombian radio. If you are in the US you might find it faster to go to this Miami mirror site. CaracolUSA
  • Wayanay Inka: get a taste of Andean culture through the music and information located at this site. Features the group's sound files and instruments common to Andean culture..
  • Radioactiva: this division of Caracol in Colombia has links to sound bytes in RealAudio, top 100 song lists and much more.
  • MTV Latin America: if you enjoy MTV you will love this site. It's MTV en español.
  • Spanish Radio Stations: if you haven't found what you are looking for yet, try this site. Pick your country from a popup menu and you'll get a list of online radio links.

Newspapers and Magazines
  • CNN En Español: CNN world news in Spanish. A great resource for Sports, weather, international concerns, health, fashion and everything else you are used to from CNN.
  • People en español: the Spanish version of the popular magazine.
  • El Espectador : another daily paper from Colombia. Includes front page stories, economics, sports, links to back issues, and more.
  • Instituto de hidrologia, meterologia, y estudios ambientales: information on climate and weather in Colombia. Updated daily.
  • Intervoz: get all of today's news from Cordoba, Argentina.
  • El Mundo : Medellín, Colombia offers this paper. Links to politics, economy, opinions, and more.
  • La Nota Económica: your link to economic news of Colombia. Simply click on the magazine's title page in the left frame to get the most recent articles.
  • La Nación-Costa Rica : Today's news from San José, Costa Rica. Includes a section with the major happenings in other Central American countries, sports, headline news, and more.
  • El País: one of the most widely distributed papers in Spain is now available in part in electronic form. Updated daily.
  • El Periódico online: the electronic edition of El Periódico de Catalunya.
  • La Prensa : in addition to the complete news features of this Panama City paper, it includes the entertainment section. Guess what the movie title would be in English.
  • La Prensa Libre : straight from Guatemala this is said to be Central America's largest daily newspaper. The latest Latin American news. Articles are in Spanish.
  • Caretas: online Peruvian magazine covering political and cultural issues of Perú. Offers a democratic view in its full length articles.
  • El Corte Inglés: online shopping at El Corte Inglés. A great place for product information and pricing or place an order.
  • Silueta a bilingual magazine with feature stories on nutrition, gardening, the planet, nature, and much more.

Literature and Language
  • Literatura hispanoamericana : links to biographical information for some of the most famous authors of the hispanic world as well as some of their works.
  • Latin American Studies Library: pick by country or by topic. You can find everything you were missing on Latin America in one spot.
  • Gabriel Garcia Marquez: information on this famous Colombian Macondo Libyrinth is dedicated to this author and his works can be found here.
  • La Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes: visit this virtual library full of online literature well known to the literary world. Many of these works also provide a sound option to listen to them as they are read.
  • Literatura Argentina: choose the author of interest, read online stories, or chat with others interested in literature. If you are interested in Argentine writers don't miss this site.
  • Tonos Digital: an online magazine dedicated to the study of tones and social language.
  • Ciberletras: this online magazine is dedicated to the critique of Spanish and Latin American Literature.
  • Learn Spanish: a list of links by category or use the search feature. The focus here is on Spain.
  • Webspañol: pronunciation, verbs, lessons, links and much more. This site boasts of their commitment to Spanish Language study with Internet resources.
  • Gramática: a comprehensive site with lots of grammar exercises in Spanish
  • Globe-Gate : this is a nice long list of sites if you don't mind scrolling to find what you are looking for. Includes list serves, search engines, maps, grammar, online lessons, general links, and much more.
  • La página del idioma español: a wonderful page dedicated to language. Here you will find not only grammar and vocabulary but also discussion and debate about the Spanish language and its development.
  • Spanish Grammar Exercises: a wonderful practice resource for all those grammar issues that students struggle with so often. Try it out!
  • Gramática y ortografía: more great practice exercises which are nicely contextualized. Also offers a variety of links to rules and other tools.
  • Conjugation Trainer: if you are looking for a great way to practice your verb forms with immediate feedback, don't miss this site.
  • Palabra del día: a growing list of vocabulary including meaning, sinonyms, and examples. You can receive a word a day by email if you prefer.
  • Spanish Flashcards: using a mouse-over you can hear the items you are interested in getting pronunciation practice with. One step better than the cards in your hands.
  • Centro Virtual Cervantes: if you are interested in langauge and culture this is a place to visit. With the use of Real Video you can explore this museum of language, learn and test your knowledge both for students and instructors.
  • Study Spanish if you haven't found what you were looking for in terms of resources for learning Spanish, take a look at this growing list of links.
  • Musical Spanish: links to songs commonly used in language classrooms such as Guantanamera, Cielito Lindo, La Cucaracha y Las Mañanitas. In addition you will find links to other sites of interest to teaching and learning Spanish.

  • IBW Internet Gateway Nicaragua: a well organized site with links to news, economy, government, tourism and more.
  • Red Científica Peruana : a view of Peru including art & culture, society, tourism, and more.
  • Puerto Rico : "expone el mundo a Puerto Rico y expone Puerto Rico al mundo." Contains great resources to Latin America and the Caribbean as well.
  • Traveling in Spain : a great database of photos and descriptions of a persons tour of southern Spain including some less traveled areas. Also links to cities throughout the country.
  • CyberSpain : great links to info on touring, leisure, art/culture, and traditions.
  • GoMadrid : if you are planning to travel to Madrid, don't miss this site. You can find hotel and tour information. Don't miss the food dictionary before hitting the bars and restaurants.
  • About Madrid: another site full of tourist information on Madrid. Itineries, shopping, food and drink are all here and much more. Also links to similar sites on other cities in Spain.
  • MadridMan : this is a detailed website on Madrid. Everything you wanted to know and more. For the media-minded, don't miss the link to radio, TV, music & movies. In English.
  • Bizkaia: learn all about the Basque region of Spain including environment, economy, language, cities, tourism and much more.
  • Paseo Virtual Extremadura: visit the many cities, learn about the language and literature, folklore, music and dance from this region of Spain.
  • About Seville:if you are looking for travel information for Seville, this is a plentiful site.
  • Visita Virtual a la Comunidad Valenciana : everything you ever wanted to know about the Comunidad Valenciana in Spanish. Links to cities as well as general regional information.
  • España al desnudo: this long list of links includes culture, sports, tourism, media, maps, economy, and much more.
  • Uruguay: links to history, geography, general country info, and much more.  
  • The World Fact Book: includes information on any country compiled by the United States' Central Intelligence Agency. Just choose the country from the drop down list.
