The Dedication will be followed by a tour of our Archaeology Lab Facilities and Dinner in the Carroll Building on the Georgia Southern campus (Bldg 209 on camp). Music by South of Blue. Tours to begin at 4:30 and dinner beginning at 5:00. Guests may park for free on campus after 3:00pm. Parking is located directly in front of the Repository and in Lot 41 behind the Carroll Building. Dr. April Schueths was awarded the 2016 Award of Excellence from Georgia Southern’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The Award of Excellence honors is awarded to a faculty member early in their career in recognition of their outstanding research, teaching, and service. Congratulations Dr. Schueths!
Dr. William Smith was awarded the 2016 College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Ruffin Cup Award. The Ruffin Cup recognizes the highest achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. It is awarded annually to a teacher-scholar with at least ten years of service to Georgia Southern who has combined excellent teaching with outstanding contributions to the spirit of the liberal arts.Congratulations Dr.Smith!
Alicia Carter, who graduated in December 2015, has been selected as Georgia Southern’s Academic Recognition Day Honoree. She will represent Georgia Southern at this University System of Georgia event. “Academic Recognition Day was created in 1987 to celebrate individual academic achievement of outstanding scholars in the University System of Georgia”. Alicia has been invited to attend the March meeting of the Georgia Regents and to attend a special lunch to honor the recipients of this recognition.
Ms. Carter graduated Summa Cum Laude and as a University Honors Program Scholar with a double major in Psychology and Sociology a minor in Writing. While at Georgia Southern, Ms. Carter collaborated with faculty on multiple research projects. For her work at Georgia Southern, Ms. Carter received the 2015 Psychology and Law Award and the 2015 Georgelle Thomas Honors Award . In addition to her outstanding academic performance, Ms. Carter was very active in the community volunteering with the St. Jude’s Nationwide Up Until Dawn campaign.
Congratulations Ms. Carter. The Department of Sociology & Anthropology couldn’t be more proud of all that you’ve already accomplished and we look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish in the future.
Faculty and students in Sociology and Anthropology met with Jose Antonio Vargas on Tuesday, February 2. Mr. Vargas is a Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalists, acclaimed documentary filmmaker, for films such as Documented and White People, and creator of DefineAmerican.com and #EmergingUS.
