Chair, Department of Sociology and Anthropology
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at
Georgia Southern University invites nominations and applications for the
position of department chair. Tenure-track position. Ph.D. in Sociology,
Anthropology or related discipline required; field of specialization open.
Start date July 1, 2008. Salary is dependent upon qualifications. Candidates
must demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The
successful candidate must also qualify for the rank of associate or full
professor within the department and must meet requirements for appointment
to the graduate faculty of the University. A minimum of four years of
college or university teaching experience at the assistant professor rank
or higher is required for appointment at the associate professor level
plus a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations
in professional venues. A minimum of five years of college or university
teaching experience at the associate professor rank or higher is required
for appointment at the full professor level plus a strong record of research
and service with substantial publications and presentations in professional
venues. Administrative experience as demonstrated by a major role directing
or chairing a department, program, or major committee is required. Because
the successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include
administrative and leadership duties associated with chairing a department
of active teacher-scholars who contribute significantly to the institution’s
core curriculum, we seek a colleague who will embrace and further the
cross-disciplinary nature of the department and its interaction with other
departments in the University. A successful record of grant activity is
