Admissions Requirements for the Master of Science in Psychology

Admission Requirements

New students are admitted to the program in fall semester only. The program is limited to a maximum of 12 new students.

Regular Admission

The applicant must have:

1.                Completed requirements for the Bachelor's degree in a college accredited by the proper regional accrediting associations.

2.             Taken Introduction to Psychology , an introductory statistics course, and at least two additional courses in psychology.  It is preferred that the applicant have taken Research Methods or Experimental Psychology.

3.             A 3.0 (4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average or higher on undergraduate work.

4.             A score of no less than 450 on the Verbal section and 450 on the Quantitative section of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE).

5.                Submitted:

a.             A statement of purpose that includes a description of your career goals, your reasons for applying for graduate study at Georgia Southern University, and a description of academic achievements and any relevant work experience.

b.             Recommendations from three individuals who can speak of the applicant's undergraduate academic performance, and potential for graduate study.

Provisional Admission

For applicants who meet two out of three requirements (GPA, GRE-Verbal, GRE-Quantitative), provisional admission may be granted by the departmental graduate faculty based on their consideration of the materials submitted by the applicant and an interview, if done.

                Statistics and Research Design (6 hours of course work)

                Content courses, e.g., Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology (18 hours)

                Applied research courses, e.g., Research Experience (6 hours)

                Thesis  (6 hours)
