Master of Science in Psychology - Program Mission and Objectives
The mission of the Master of Science program in Psychology is to produce graduates who are knowledgeable in specific content areas of scientific psychology as well as skilled in conducting independent research. Through rigorous coursework and one-on-one collaborations with faculty, graduates will be poised to gain entrance to a psychology (or psychology-related) doctoral program or be employed with a position in the social sciences.
Program Outcomes
After completing this program, students will:
- be highly familiar with basic content areas of scientific psychology (cognition, learning, developmental, social, physiological)
- Assessment: Course grades, performance on comprehensive exams
- understand statistics and research design and be able to use and interpret appropriate statistical analyses in the context of standard empirical research paradigms
- Assessment: Course grades, performance on comprehensive exams, assessment of use of statistics in thesis
- develop and execute an original empirical study in psychology
- Assessment: Quality of thesis
- gain entrance in a doctoral program in psychology
- Assessment: Appropriate data collected
- be able to obtain employment in the area of applied social science research
- Assessment: Appropriate data collected
- develop a university-level course syllabus, examination, and deliver a lecture (if students opt for the program's teaching emphasis)
