Master of Science in Psychology
"One of the things that makes the graduate program so great is how the students have so many research and teaching opportunities within the Psychology department. Grad students are welcome to work with numerous faculty members and the faculty are all very supportive of this collaborative nature. I really enjoy that the faculty encourage the grad students to pursue different areas of research while developing a personal research program. The faculty are also very personable with the grad students and I love feeling that I know the faculty as people and not just as professors. I am excited about the teaching emphasis offered within the program because it provides grad students with a great opportunity to learn teaching techniques and gain valuable teaching experience." -- Angela Legg, M.S. class of '09
"I decided to pursue my Master's degree at Georgia Southern University because of its outstanding reputation and commitment to excellence. The teaching and research skills I gained at GSU have proven valuable as I pursue my doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and the faculty were always eager to assist in any research or teaching related manner. I cannot stress enough the importance of this program in reaching my goals." -- Bryan Dawson, M.S., class of '07
"My M.S. in Experimental Psychology at Georgia Southern opened a professional career for me in educational consulting. My training in research design and statistics coupled with the program's emphasis on precision in oral and written expression prepared me well for the work that followed." -- Alyson Cantney, class of '03
Welcome to Georgia Southern’s MS in Psychology web page. Our program is designed to give you an edge in gaining entry into a doctoral program in psychology (including Clinical or Counseling Psychology), and to provide you with the skills and qualifications needed to pursue a career immediately if you choose.
The curriculum has an experimental focus, and involves a combination of coursework and working closely with faculty on research. A student-oriented atmosphere and low student/faculty ratio offer you the opportunity to become involved in research quickly, while the diverse training of our faculty provide a wide range of study areas, including Cognition, Developmental, Clinical, Social, Sensation and Perception, Personality, Psychology of Religion, Health, and Physiological psychology.
The program also offers an optional teaching emphasis, which involves one-on-one mentoring from dedicated teachers as well as in-class teaching experience. The teaching emphasis prepares you to teach psychology at the college level.
We welcome your application. Please consult our Admissions Requirements link for more details on whether you are eligible. If you’d like to apply to the program, go to the College of Graduate Studies website (see link below) to begin.
