According to Music Director and Conductor, Cheung Chau; "This concert is very unique in many ways. It is a concert of Memoriam, with Ravel's nostalgic Pavane for a Dead Princess and Beethoven's heroic symphony named Eroica, dedicated to the memory of a great hero. This concert is also has a heavy French accent, with Ravel's piece and the two sax concertos by Ibert and Maurice, being French compositions. The hero to whom Beethoven dedicated his symphony also happens to be a Frenchman. Come and discover his identity!"
The Southern Georgia Symphony's 2006-2007 Performance Season concludes with the Statesboro Herald and Statesboro Connect Pops Concert in Statesboro on April 29 and the COMCAST Pops Concert in Savannah on May 1. "Mercer and the Movies," showcasing the timeless classics of Savannah's own Johnny Mercer, will be presented during both Pops Concert performances. Special guests will be announced at a later date.
