Graduate Studies in Composition

The M.M. in Composition allows students to work
extensively with a teacher/mentor in broadening their portfolio of compositions in a variety of genres and styles. Students take supporting courses in music technology, advanced analysis, and the history of music. The capstone is a full solo recital involving many different types of soloists, ensembles, and media. Students may elect to do considerable work in the Department’s Digital Electronic Music Laboratory.



Application Materials

In addition to making application for the graduate school, prospective students applying for the M.M. in Music Composition should send a separate packet to the music department containing the following information:

Sample scores for at least three different types of composition.
