Vocal Arts

The Vocal Arts area is one of the most visible and vibrant parts of the exceptional music program at Georgia Southern University. Students from all academic majors participate in choirs, opera, and private vocal study. Those wishing to major in music may pursue the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, Performance, or Composition or the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. Graduate students may earn the Master of Music Degree in Music Education, Performance, Music Technology, or Composition. The Minor in Music is available in Applied, Music History and Literature, and Music Technology.

Near 100% Employment Placement

Georgia Southern graduates have nearly 100 percent placement in music education, and many have successful careers in performance and Arts-related professions. Alumni have continued their educations in graduate programs at the Eastman School of Music, Boston University , Peabody Conservatory, Westminster Choir College , and the Royal College of Music in London.

Off-Campus Appearances and Tours

Academic studies and performances are augmented by numerous off-campus appearances by students and faculty, and Georgia Southern Chorale’s annual concert tours. The Georgia Southern Chorale is often active in international studies during the summer, most recently competing in the International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition in Linz, Austria in the Summer 2013.

Graduate Program
The M.M. in Music Performance gives student vocalists an opportunity to work extensively with a teacher/mentor to improve their technical and interpretative skills and to broaden their solo performing repertory. Students take supporting courses in the literature of their voice type, advanced analysis, and the history of music. The capstone is a full solo recital that demonstrates proficiency in performing a broad range of musical styles.
