Symphonic Wind Ensemble
The Georgia Southern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band at GSU, and is open, by audition, to the finest wind and percussion performers from the Department of Music and on the Georgia Southern campus. Auditions for GSUSWE are held the week prior to the start of fall and spring semester.

GSUSWE performs wind ensemble repertoire of the highest caliber, representing all musical style periods from the Renaissance through modern day, and features compositions by some of the finest composers including – Warren Benson, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Ingolf Dahl, Antonin Dvorak, George Gershwin, Percy Grainger, Paul Hindemith, Gustav Holst, Charles Ives,David Maslanka, Darius Milhaud, W.A. Mozart, Joseph Schwantner, Igor Stravinsky, Kurt Weill, among many others. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble typically performs two concerts each semester on the Georgia Southern campus, and regularly tours throughout Georgia and the Southeastern United States.

Additionally, GSUSWE is an integral facet of the Department of Music's summer Study Abroad Program , which includes an international concert tour every third summer. In the recent past, GSUSWE has appeared in London , Prague , Vienna , Florence , Munich , also performing with The White Russian Central Band while traveling in Europe .


G.S.U. Concert Band
The Georgia Southern University Concert Band fosters the highest performance standards while offering its members an opportunity to expand their technical expertise and musical understanding. Programming for the Concert Band features challenging and engaging literature drawn from the rich musical tradition of the modern concert band.

Membership in the Concert Band is open to Music Majors as well as other students throughout the Georgia Southern campus who have a sufficient level of performance ability on wind and percussion instruments. Auditions for seating placement in the ensemble are held at the beginning of each term. The Concert Band generally performs two concerts each semester on the Georgia Southern campus, occasionally performing off campus and on tours with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.



Southern Georgia Symphony
Besides filling the function of a university orchestra for the instruction and experience of music majors pursuing careers in orchestral instruments, the Southern Georgia Symphony is a semi-professional orchestra serving the cultural needs of Bulloch and the surrounding counties.

The orchestra presents three subscription concerts, two youth concerts, one outdoor "Pops" concert, one Holiday concert in December, and sight-reads the standard literature. Personnel is composed of Georgia Southern University student musicians, professional players and qualified community residents.

Southern Pride Marching Band and Hoop Troop Band
The Southern Pride Marching Band's home is Allen E. Paulson Stadium on the Georgia Southern campus. The band performs at all home games, select out of town games, parades, and as an exhibition band at marching contests throughout the state. The goal is to combine the highest quality of musicality and execution, while providing entertainment and enthusiasm for all fans of GSU football. It's this combination of quality and enthusiasm that has earned Southern Pride its title: the hardest working Bandin show business!

The Hoop Troop Basketball Band performs for home games and on the road during the tournament season. Earning the reputation as "the Boro's most Dangerous Band," the Hoop Troop leads the spirited crowds of Hanner Gym and
adds to the excitement and support of Eagle Basketball. The Troop's repertoire contains a variety of music including; jazz, latin, television theme music, R and B, hard rock, classic rock, Motown, and pop music. Membership is by audition only. 


G.S.U. Jazz Ensemble
The GSU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Bill Schmid, provides a venue for qualified musicians to perform jazz in a 20-member big band. Guest artists who have performed with the group include Bobby Shew and Tom Malone. The Jazz Ensemble's popular concerts serve to expose listeners throughout southeast Georgia to this authentic American music.

The Georgia Southern jazz area also features smaller student combos, which play numerous on- and off-campus concerts. Most recently, a GSU jazz combo performed at the Bayerisches Landesmusikfest ( Munich , Germany ) in 2005.
