String Division at Georgia Southern

The Music Department String Division at Georgia Southern University provides string players from around the world the highest-level education and an opportunity to receive music coaching under the guidance of the internationally acclaimed Elaris Duo as well as other talented faculty.

Undergraduate and graduate students and non-music majors enjoy the opportunity to perform symphonic and operatic repertoire in a thriving orchestral program under the distinguished baton of Maestro Gnam, and to collaborate with other musicians at Georgia Southern University. In a nurturing and exciting atmosphere, the string faculty offers students individual development, preparation for future careers in teaching and performing as well as bringing opportunities to fulfill non-music majors' musical dreams.

The curriculum includes private lessons, chamber music ensembles, and orchestra. Degrees offered include Bachelor of Music with major in String Performance or Music Education. The Bachelor of Arts degree in Music allows students to minor in another academic area while pursuing a music degree. Master of Music degrees are also offered with emphases in Performance and Music Education.

Chamber Music

Drs. Steven and Larisa Elisha offer string students comprehensive instruction in quartet and mixed chamber music repertoire as well as frequent performing experiences. Cellists and bass players enjoy performing in the GSU Low String Ensemble.

String students at GSU, through their active involvement and commitment to artistic excellence, contribute significantly to the cultural life on campus, within the community an the southern coastal region of Georgia.
