Brass Studies at Georgia Southern

Brass 1In addition to the bands and orchestras, students in the brass area have the opportunity to perform in GSU Brass Quintets, Trumpet Ensemble, Horn Ensemble, Trombone Ensemble, and Tuba/Euphonium Quartet as well as mixed chamber ensembles. Each of these groups is active on campus and in the community. Brass students also participate in the Georgia Music Educators' Association All College Band. Brass graduates of Georgia Southern have moved on to careers in public-school music education and professional orchestral playing (Louisville, Dayton). Others have continued their education in graduate schools such as University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and California Institute of the Arts.

Members of the brass faculty are active performers with area orchestras, jazz ensembles, and in solo and chamber music recitals. Previously, prominent artists such as the Boston Brass, Allen Vizzutti and Buddy Baker have been guests for performances and master classes. Winds at Southern is the annual day of master classes and performances for high school students.
