About Dr. Thomson:
Susan Thomson, part-time Assistant Professor, teaches music theory and serves as an accompanist at Georgia Southern University. She received the D.M.A. from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she was a Holderness doctoral fellow and music theory teaching assistant. Her dissertation comprises analyses of original features present in the solo piano music of Lukas Foss. Dr. Thomson earned the M.M. from Florida State University and the B.M. with Distinction from the Eastman School of Music.
Her principal piano teachers include Frank Glazer, Arminda Canteros, Edward Kilenyi, and John Salmon. Professional activities include a performance of Foss's piano music at the College Music Society National Convention in Cleveland , Ohio and a lecture recital at the CMS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Meeting at Sweet Briar College . She has contributed reviews of contemporary piano literature for Piano Guild Notes and her articles have appeared in the Georgia Music News and online for soundout: the web magazine for contemporary music.
Dr. Thomson was a recording contract winner in the Vienna Modern Masters Second International Recording Competition. Her performance of Foss's Fantasy Rondo appears on the Vienna Modern Masters Distinguished Performers Series CD, Music On and Off the Keys (VMM 2016) . Broadcasts of her performances have been featured on WXXI ( Rochester , N.Y. ), New Music Bazaar (WGDR, Vermont ), and The Latest Score (WOMR, Massachusetts ). Dr. Thomson is a member of the College Music Society, Music Teachers National Association, Georgia Music Educators Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
