About Dr. Mercier:

Pianist and author Richard Mercier joined Georgia Southern University in 2008. He has performed extensively as collaborative pianist and soloist throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Europe and China, where he has an open invitation for future performances and master classes.

A Connecticut native, he moved to Milledgeville, Georgia in 2002 after several years at universities in the San Francisco Bay area, Manhattan and Connecticut. He is frequently called upon to adjudicate for competitions and festivals, to give master classes for singers and pianists, and to present at professional meetings and conferences.

In addition to his performing and administrative experience, Dr. Mercier has worked in concert management, managed a piano competition, premiered piano compositions by young American composers, coached and accompanied a broad range of instrumental and vocal music, served as church organist/choir director, performed in marching band, directed opera productions, served as assistant conductor/opera coach with regional opera companies, and taught in the public school system.

Dr. Mercier has participated in Faculty Development Workshops, including one in Valladolid, Spain and brought students on a study abroad trip to the Czech Republic. He is author of several articles and two books, The Songs of Max Reger (Scarecrow Press, 2008) and The Songs of Hans Pfitzner (Greenwood Press, 1998).
