About Dr. Furry:
Stephanie Furry is a Part-time Assistant Professor of Music at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia where she teaches horn, directs the GSU Horn Ensemble, and performs with the GSU Faculty Brass Quintet. Stephanie is also active as a soloist and ensemble performer playing principal horn with the Hilton Head Orchestra since 2003 and freelancing throughout the region. Before moving to Georgia, Stephanie taught at Mississippi State University and California Institute of the Arts.
Prior to teaching, Stephanie played professionally as a freelance orchestra and studio hornist in Los Angeles. She has performed and recorded extensively with many orchestras and major recording studios where she played for many major motion pictures, television movies, and commercial jingles. Some of her movie recording credits include Meet Joe Black, The Negotiator, For Love of the Game and South Park. Her orchestral background includes playing principal horn with the Pacific Symphony, Hollywood Brass Ensemble, Santa Barbara Symphony, and other regional orchestras. Stephanie has also enjoyed orchestral and solo appearances in New York, Washington D.C., Manchester (England), Florence (Italy), and Munich (Germany).
Stephanie holds three degrees in horn performance including a D.M.A. from the University of Southern California where she studied with the legendary Vincent DeRosa, a M.M. from Florida State University, and B.M. from the University of Alabama.
