Southeastern Georgia Horn Workshop 2014 finishedSmall Southeastern Georgia Horn Workshop
November 1, 2014Dr. Stephanie Furry, Assistant Professor of Horn, has established and will host the Southeastern Georgia Horn Workshop. The event will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Foy Building on the campus of Georgia Southern University.

The Workshop is dedicated to promoting educational and performance opportunities to horn students and teachers of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest. The workshop will include guest recitals, ensemble performances, exhibits with the latest instrument models from C.G. Conn and horn related equipment from Pladd Dot Music, and educational clinic sessions on a wide variety of topics of interest and benefit to all who play or teach horn. The Workshop is sponsored by the Conn-Selmer Corporation, Pladd Dot Music, and the Georgia Southern University Department of Music.

Dr. Steven Elisha and Dr. Larisa Elisha – DirectorsPresented by Chamber Music America and Georgia Southern University, the 5-day intensive will include string master classes, chamber ensemble coachings, workshops, string chamber orchestra rehearsals as well as faculty and student performances.String players have the opportunity to study with the internationally acclaimed Elaris Duo (Dr. Larisa Elisha, violin and Dr. Steven Elisha, cello), Directors of the Festival and the String Program at Georgia Southern University.Pre-formed groups as well as single applicants are encouraged to apply.  Trombone GSU Trombone Ensemble prepares for International Festival
 The Georgia Southern ensemble was one of 23 collegiate and professional ensembles invited from around the world to participate in the 2013 International Trombone Festival at Columbus State University.

Murray-Wurttemberg Dr. David Murray releases a recording on Summit Records.
David Murray, Associate Professor and Piano Chair in the Music Department, recently released a piano recording of C.P.E. Bach’s Würtemberg Sonatas 1, 2, and 3. The recording represents a significant contribution to the catalog of recorded performances of the Würtemberg Sonatas. This recording is one of only two piano recordings of these pieces, and it is the first to make use of historically informed practices. The CD may be purchased from Summit Records:

logo-southeast Georgia Southern wins an Emmy!
The University was honored in the “Best Audio Live” category for a Georgia Southern Symphony performance of Schumann’s Concerto for Piano in A minor, featuring Dr. David Murray as pianist. Congratulations to the Center for Academic Tech Support, Maestro Adrian Gnam, Dr. David Murray, and the Department of Music for their Emmy award-winning performance.
Chorale Georgia Southern Chorale at the International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition
The Georgia Southern Chorale won all gold medals and placed second overall in the top compulsory category at the International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition. Following the competition, the Chorale tour Italy and performed during High Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Congratulations to Dr. Shannon Jeffreys and the Georgia Southern Chorale.
