MPA Internship

Each graduate student will need to make sure that the following steps are taken as preparation for interning in the MPA program.  The information outlined below is to be sent to the MPA Program Director and must be approved before registering for PBAD 7730 Internship.  The information and approval then become part of your departmental file.

(1) Document your relevant work experience to date including any and all public & nonprofit experience. Undergraduate internships and part-time work may be included, just document them as such.

Provide (2) a detailed paragraph on your prospective internship, i.e. who, what, when, where, etc.. There will be supervisor evaluations, and the forms are included in the packet that you get from the MPA Office. **

We will also need to see (3) how you interning at this time fits with your program of study. Ideally, internships should follow completion of the core requirements. If done earlier, preparing the written analysis will be more difficult.

The holds on internship registrations all await students providing this information.

The information collected during the internship must be built around (4) a set of documented criteria of good practice drawn from core courses. Most students develop 6-8 criteria in each of three subfields, e.g., personnel, budgeting, planning, etc. This analytic exercise will later form the core of the internship paper, also referred to by some as the capstone paper.

The following 4 forms need to be printed out and turned in on time.

Insurance Form
Midterm Evaluation - To be completed after approximately 150 hours of work/service.
Final Student Evaluation - To be completed at the end of the internship.
Final Evaluation - To be completed at the end of the internship.
Weekly Journal Responses are due each Sunday by 11:59 PM
Reflection Paper Due Date: Two (2) weeks following completion of internship
