Why MASS? Danielle Scudder
My aim in completing an MA in Social Science was to further my knowledge in Anthropology, gaining more fieldwork and cultural experience to use my knowledge to address pressing social issues. The research I have completed and the experience I have gained working with Dr. Altman during my tenure here has helped me grow as a professional and as an anthropologist.
The MASS program allowed me to complete an internship with Dr. Altman’s non-profit organization, The Center for Native Health. The organization’s desire to work with Native communities to address health and educational disparities mirrors my own desire to work closely with Native people and assist in alleviating issues involved with a history of structural violence and inequality.Eventually, I would like to begin my own non-profit focused on educational and socio-economic disparities, or find a preexisting organization I can work closely with that shares my ideals of social justice.
