Center for Irish Studies

Live and study for five weeks in Ireland's oldest city! See the cultural, artistic, and historical treasures that have made Ireland a destination for generations! Waterford, a walled city of Viking origins, retains much of its medieval character together with the graceful buildings from its eighteenth-century expansion.
Just 100 miles south of Dublin, Waterford City is home to Waterford Crystal and gives you access to many castles, houses, gardens, and prehistoric sites. West of Dungarvan is a wild and beautiful peninsula containing the historic seaside resort of Ardmore and the Gaeltacht, a unique Gaelic-speaking area. Southeast of Waterford City is the East Waterford Gaultier Coast, a peninsula with a distinct Anglo-Norman character, containing the seaside resort of Dunmore East.

To make this first-rate transcultural opportunity available, your Center for Irish Studies has built a partnership with the Waterford Institute of Technology (our Irish home) and the Valdosta-based European Council of University System of Georgia. The EC Office at Valdosta State University handles all payments, but the Center for Irish Studies at Georgia Southern is your information and support service for Waterford 2009. The Center Director and the Irish Studies Faculty are always available to chat about the Waterford Program. To ask an email question or set up a friendly face-to-face meeting, please contact your Center: irish@georgiasouthern.edu. We'll get back to you in a timely fashion. You can also call the Center: Mo-Th, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM at (912) 478-2350.
