IPNS, Georgia Southern University Ranked 11th Most Affordable Public Administration School
The Public Administration program at Georgia Southern University has been named one of the nation’s most affordable Public Administration Schools in 2015 by the College affordability guide. The Institute for public and nonprofit studies’ MPA program was ranked 11th in the top 50 rankings.
According to College affordability guide, over 400 schools across the country were selected to be eligible for the subjects’ page rankings, with each school required to have offered programs in the subject for at least 5 years and providing best options from an affordability standpoint.
Each school was ranked against one another using three main criteria: reasonable costs, promising outcomes and suitability for lower-income students.
College affordability guide explains the methodology for this selection as through focusing “not only on the financial cost of colleges, but on the opportunity cost: we look at what happens to students once they’re enrolled. Do they graduate? Can they pay back their loans? In addition, we did extensive research to determine the level of flexibility each school gives you as far as earning credits (credit for prior learning, weekends/evenings, online education, etc.). We shed light on emerging new models like Competency-Based Education that may help you reduce the cost of your degree”
The Institute for Public and Nonprofit Studies at Georgia Southern University offers a 39-credit Master of Public Administration (MPA) program with concentrations in public management and nonprofit management. MPA students complete 21 credit hours of core requirements and 12 credit hours of concentration requirements. Students are also required to complete a three-credit internship at a public or nonprofit agency. Additionally, MPA students have the opportunity to participate in the MPA Student Association, a student-led organization that creates events and activities that celebrate and promote public service. GSU also offers a certificate in public and nonprofit management. The certificate includes a total of five classes and can be completed entirely online. MPA students are eligible for graduate assistantships that include a tuition waiver.
