M.A. PROGRAM OF STUDY

PROGRAM OF STUDY:  36 HRS.
The department offers thesis and non-thesis options

REQUIRED COURSES:

     • The Historian’s Craft HIST 7630  3 hrs.

     • Reading Colloquium  3 hrs.
HIST 7631, 7633, or 7635 in area of geographic concentration

     • Reading Colloquium  3 hrs.
HIST 7631, 7633, or 7635 outside area of geographic concentration

     • Research Seminar HIST 7638  3 hrs.

     • Five Electives (5000G-level or above) 15 hrs./ five courses
A maximum of two elective courses (6 hrs.) may be taken outside the History Department.

     • Required Comprehensive Coursework Oral Exam upon completion of the above 27 hrs.

NON-THESIS PROJECT TRACK:

     • Additional Elective (5000G-level or above) 3 hrs.

     • Historical Writing HIST 7830  3 hrs.

     • Non-Thesis Project HIST 7990  3 hrs.

THESIS TRACK:

     • Historical Writing HIST 7830 3 hrs.

     • Thesis HIST 7999  6 hrs.

     • Required Oral Thesis Defense upon completion of thesis

OTHER PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
     • The student must also pass a reading-knowledge examination in an appropriate foreign language.
