Research Interests:
I am currently revising my dissertation, “Reconstructing Respectability: The Remaking of Black Women's Activism, 1896-1960” for publication. My project explores transformations within African American women’s activism from the Progressive era through the beginnings of the modern civil rights movement. I specifically examine how both widely recognized black female activists and lesser-known working-class, Communist, and Left reformers reconstructed and manipulated pre-existing and popular models of race protest and respectable politics.
