B.A./M.A.T. Program Requirements

The Department of History cooperates with the College of Education (COE) to provide guidance to and advice for undergraduate history majors who intend to pursue a career in teaching at the secondary (high school) level.  Although secondary teaching certification is now offered as a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) by the College of Education, the Department of History has paternered with the College of Education to recommend a course of study for teaching track undergraduates that provides 1) a sound foundation in essential content; 2) appropriate preparation for the Georgia Assessment for Certification of Educators (GACE) exam; and 3) a seamless transition into the MAT program.

Students who have questions about the BA Teaching Track (BATT) should consult the College of Education and the Department of History BATT Director, Dr. Donald Rakestraw.
