| How do I
get advised? 1. Make an
appointment with your advisor (see the history department secretary to
find out your advisor's name). Email your advisor to set up an
appointment.
2. Before your appointment, pick up a Registration Planning Sheet from the history office (room 1105 Forest Drive Building). Fill in some of the courses you want to take and make a note of any questions you may want to discuss with your advisor. You may also need to pick up a current History Check Sheet and Upper Division Course Brochure. 3. Keep your appointment with your advisor. In fact, be a little early. Advisors like that kind of stuff. If you find that you can't make it, call your advisor before-hand. They like that, too. 4. Once you have been advised, your advisor will give you your RAN. Your RAN is a number that allows you to register on WINGS. (This number changes every semester). Hang on to this number - you will need it for registration, drop/add, or to withdraw from a course. |

| How do I
request an override in an UPPER DIVISION class? 1. Contact
instructor of upper division course requested. (You
may contact the instructor by
email, phone, or in person.)
2. Be prepared to explain why you need the override. (A valid reason is required to obtain override approval.) 3. Instructor will be responsible for notifying department office in writing of override approval, and supplying student's name, ID no., and course information. 4. If override is approved, the department office will be responsible for registering the student in the class. Student should check their WINGS account to make sure the class has been added to their schedule. 5. The decision to grant an override rests solely with the instructor. |
| Overrides
into Core History Classes (HIST 1112 and HIST
2110) are extremely rare .
If you think you have a compelling reason to request an override, you may contact the department chair two days prior to the first day of class. Decisions will be made on a case by case basis. |
