Just like English, German has many prepositions. Prepositions precede objects (nouns or pronouns), and require certain cases to be used with them. The elements are then called prepositional phrase in the accusative/dative/genitive case.
Here are most prepositions listed by case.
AKKUSATIV
ab, bis, durch, entlang, für, gegen, ohne, um, wider
ab takes Acc. only in time expressions;
entlang takes Genitive as a preposition, Accusative as a
postposition
DATIV

halber is always postposition.
