Imperatives are used to give commands, instructions, etc. They exist for present (and future) tense only (in the past, one would describe what happened). "Informal" imperatives do not use personal pronouns, "formal" ones do use the pronoun ("Sie").
| . | Informal | Formal | |
| Infinitiv | Singular | Plural | Singular UND Plural |
| kommen | Komm! | Kommt! | Kommen Sie an die Tafel! |
| geben | Gib! | Gebt! | Geben Sie mir das Buch! |
| fahren | Fahr! | Fahrt! | Fahren Sie nicht so schnell! |
| laufen | Lauf! | Lauft! | Laufen Sie nach Hause! |
For a suggestion to a group of people of which the
person making the suggestion is part, wir-forms ["let
us"] are used. Note the word order (Verb - Subject):
==> Gehen wir zum Essen und dann ins Kino!
(Let's go eat and then to the movies!)
