- Mission
The Center for Printability fulfills the following multiple missions:
- to conduct research related to printabilty,
- to organize itself to become self sufficient by providing services to Center clients,
- to transfer learned knowledge to the industry,
- to provide resources to support instruction, and
- to become a recognized expert resources.
Description
The purpose for the Center for Printability is to fill an apparent gap in testing and research for ink on paper issues. Paper manufactures do a good job of testing paper properties and ink manufactures do a good job of testing ink characteristics. However, neither of them are testing the interaction of ink on paper under printing conditions. There are exceptions and it should be recognized that there are some manufactures using printability tests. The Center is intended to be independent of any one manufacturer and an advocate for the printing industry as a whole. The scope of the Center goes beyond just ink and paper. The purpose is to be more inclusive than just be ink and paper but to include "all properties that impact on the interaction of ink and paper." All properties would include such items as plates, films, fountain solutions, presses, pressures, blankets, anilox rollers and mounting material.
