About Dr. Leticia McGrath

Dr. Leticia McGrath has been a professor of Spanish at Georgia Southern University since August 2000, with prior experience teaching Spanish at The University of ScrantonThe University of Kentucky, and Auburn University. Dr. McGrath teaches all levels of Spanish from 1001 through the graduate level, specializing in Hispanic Culture through Film, Spanish Theatre, Contemporary Spain, the Spanish Civil War, 19th-20th Century Spanish Literature, and Spanish Stylistics. In addition, she teaches courses for the First Year Experience program, including a seminar on Hispanic Culture through Film and a Global Citizens course titled “Mother Tongue.”

She has extensive experience as an author of content for online language learning, including the development of Intermediate Spanish for the University System of Georgia’s fully online eCore program and Georgia Southern University’s first fully online Elementary Spanish courses. Dr. McGrath is a subject matter expert and a digital faculty consultant for McGraw-Hill Higher Education, for whom she currently authors exclusive content for the innovative LearnSmart platform. Since 2007, she has also been a Spanish E-structor for Smarthinking.com, an online tutoring service available for students all over the world.

In 2004 Dr. McGrath published a book titled Joaquín Dicenta: Spain’s Forgotten Dramatist about Spain’s first social playwright. She has presented her research at numerous conferences worldwide, including Spain, Perú, and Jamaica.  Dr. McGrath has directed study abroad programs in Spain, Mexico, and Costa Rica, and has extensive experience abroad. She regularly mentors graduate teaching assistants as well as undergraduate peer leaders.
