About Dr. Kartchner

Eric Kartchner is an associate professor of Spanish and serves as the chair of the Department of Foreign Languages at Georgia Southern University. He received a BA from Weber State University, where he studied French, Spanish, and Philosophy. His MA in Spanish Literature and Hispanic Linguistics comes from the University of Nevada, Reno. He obtained his doctorate from Indiana University, Bloomington, in Hispanic Literature with minors in Hispanic Linguistics and Comparative Literature. Dr. Kartchner held positions at the University of North Texas, at Southern Methodist University, and at Colorado State University-Pueblo. He enjoys teaching a wide variety of courses in language, literature, and linguistics. His research interests are also diverse but tend to focus primarily on Spanish literature of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Dr. Kartchner is a certified Oral Proficiency Interview Tester and Tester Trainer for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. In this role he provides proficiency training to language instructors (K-12 and university levels) around the country. He also enjoys dancing Latin rhythms and regularly teaches a Freshman Orientation course on the topic.
