National French Week

Friday, November 2

A French luncheon at the Department of Hospitality, Tourism, and Family and Consumer Sciences’ Food Lab; Hospitality, Tourism, and Family and Consumer Sciences Building. Coordinated by Chef Stephen Minton and Dr. Larry Stalcup. Cost: $9.00, including tax. Reservations required: 478-5975.


Sunday, November 4:
The Magellan String Quartet, Faculty Recital Series. Performances of music written by French Impressionist composers, including Debussy and Chausson. Coordinated by Dr. Jonathan Aceto, the Department of Music. First Presbyterian Church, 7:30 p.m. Free admission.

Monday, November 5:

“The History and Highlights of the Musée du Louvre, the Oldest, Largest, and Most Famous Museum in the World.” A presentation by Dr. Julie McGuire, the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art. The Arts Building, Room 2016, 4:00 p.m. Free admission.


Also on Monday, November 5:

“L’Appartement” (1996), a film starring Monica Bellucci, Vincent Cassel, and Romane Bohringer. Set in Paris, the story revolves around a man, about to be married, who becomes obsessed with another woman he believes to be a long-lost love. In French, with English subtitles. Part of the John Humma Cinema Arts Series. Coordinated by Dr. Tomasz Warchol; Dr. John Humma advisor. Russell Union Theatre, 7:15 p.m. Admission: $3.00. Tuesday, November 6:

A French menu at the lunchtime buffet in Landrum Cafeteria, 11:00 a.m.- 1:00p.m. Coordinated by Mr. Bob Miller, Food Services. Cost for students: Included in meal plan, or $5.00, plus tax.
Cost for others: $7.00, plus tax.

Tuesday, November 6, Afternoon:

“Acadian (Cajun) Spirituality in Early 19th-Century Louisiana.” A presentation by Dr. James M. Woods, the Department of History. Nessmith-Lane Center, Room 2911, 4:00 p.m. Free admission.


Tuesday, November 6, Evening:

“Traditional Songs and Music from France, Louisiana, and Quebec.” A performance of vocal and instrumental music on traditional instruments featuring Dr. Jean-Paul Carton, the Department of Foreign Languages, and Ms. Dominique Carton. Coordinated by Dr. Carton. Introduction by Dr. Donnie Richards, Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages. Nessmith-Lane Center, Room 2911, 7:30 p.m. Free admission.


Wednesday, November 7:
“A Recital in Celebration of National French Week.” Performances of vocal and instrumental music written by French composers. Coordinated by Dr. Linda Cionitti, the Department of Music. Trinity Episcopal Church, 7:30 p.m. Free admission. Information: http://class.georgiasouthern.edu/music/.

Thursday, November 8:

A second French menu at the lunchtime buffet in Landrum Cafeteria.
