Why Study Chinese?

Learn About the Chinese New Year

 


Study Elementary Chinese at GSU and you will:

  • Have one Chinese class Monday through Friday and get three credits for a semester
  • Study the Chinese (Mandarin) language as well as the Chinese culture and customs
  • Learn the simplified Chinese characters which are much easier to write than the traditional ones
  • Learn Chinese songs and poems
  • Learn Chinese caligraphy if you desire
  • Have a Chinese pen pal, who can
      • Write emails to you in English or Chinese Pinyin/characters
      • Introduce Chinese college students’ campus life to you
      • Introduce famous Chinese sightseeing resorts to you
  • You can go to China to study Chinese, either on a Summer Study program for 4 weeks or on an exchange program for one to two semesters as you prefer
      • Zhengzhou University for the Summer Study program, which is the capital city of Henan Province, just 24 km south of Yellow river, about 80 km to the famous Shaolin Monastery, where some of China’s martial arts (kongfu) traditions were developed, as depicted in Jet Li’s debut movie “Shaolin Monastery”
      • Central China Normal Unviersity for the exchange program for one to two semesters, which is the capital city of Hubei Province, by the Yangtzi River (the longest one in China)
