Clarence W. McCord Scholarship

All Communication Arts majors are encouraged to apply for the Clarence W. McCord Scholarship. Dr. McCord, former Communication Arts Department Chair, envisioned the modern communications degree as an integrated curriculum, which led to the establishment of the broadcasting and public relations degrees at Georgia Southern University. Scholarship amount will be determined by the Georgia Southern Foundation at the time it is awarded. This scholarship recipient(s) will be recognized as part of the Communication Arts Awards Ceremony (April 24).

Criteria for the Scholarship include:
•  Open to Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors
•  Full-time students during 2008-09
•  Minimum 3.0 GPA (overall, adjusted)
•  High moral character
•  Recognized as a leader among peers

Susan Bacon MacLachlan Memorial
Scholarship

All interested female Communication Arts majors are encouraged
to apply for the annual Susan Bacon MacLachlan Scholarship. The
late Ms. MacLachlan was an alumnae of our department. The final
amount of this scholarship will be determined by the Georgia Southern
Foundation at the time it is awarded. This scholarship recipient(s) will
be recognized as part of the Communication Arts Awards Ceremony on
April 24th .

Criteria for the Scholarship include:
•  Junior or Senior
•  Minimum 2.8 GPA (overall, adjusted)
•  Full-time students during the 2008-09 year
•  High moral character
•  Demonstrated leadership

Under the conditions of the Scholarship, if no female majors qualify
for this award, then the Scholarship may be offered to male students
who satisfy the criteria.

Winburn Scholarship

Have you made a difference by using your professional skills?

Broadcasting, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations
and Communication Arts majors are encouraged to apply for the Winburn
Scholarship. This scholarship recipient will be recognized as part of the
Communication Arts Awards Ceremony (April 24).

Criteria for the Scholarship include:
Sophomore, Junior or Senior Status
Full-time students during 2008-09

Role model for other students as evidenced by professional service
to the department, University and/or community. Professional service
can be defined as contributing talent and time individually or through
student groups. Application of professional talent in paid experiences
(e.g. SOAR, videography for sports events, student media work, etc.)
will be considered as well.

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in major

$1500 Journalism Scholarship Awards

 

The Atlanta Press Club Scholarship Committee invites students to apply for four (4) $1500 scholarship awards, to be presented to outstanding Georgia college or university sophomores and juniors who are pursuing careers in journalism.

 

The $1500 scholarships will be given to two print journalism and two broadcast journalism students. WXIA-TV, Channel 11 and WAGA-TV, Fox 5 sponsor the broadcast awards. The Fox 5 award is given in honor of the late Jacque Maddox, who spent many years in television and was a teacher of the arts at Clark Atlanta University . This award will be given to an outstanding student from the Atlanta University center.

 

To qualify for scholarships, students must be working toward a career in news and aiming to achieve excellence in the field of reporting. Also, students must be attending a Georgia college or university. Finalists and recipients will receive one-year membership to the Atlanta Press Club. In addition to the $1500 award, recipients will receive a certificate documenting their achievement as well as the prestige of receiving a scholarship from one of the largest press clubs in the country. Presentation of the award will be made at an Atlanta Press Club event to be held in the spring. Prior winners of this award are not eligible.

 

The Atlanta Press Club scholarship committee will judge applicants on the basis of skill, achievement and commitment to journalism. Applications are available online at www.atlantapressclub.org and must be submitted by February 29, 2008.
