The Georgia Southern Broadcast Program has a history of excellence in preparing students for radio and television careers. Alumni are employed at stations, networks and production facilities throughout Georgia and the Southeastern United States. Others are enjoying careers in Washington, D.C., Hollywood, and Nashville. Such success is a result of a challenging curriculum, dedicated faculty, individualized instruction, and a superior relationship with the broadcast industry. The program is now preparing students to move into the new realm of Internet and digital media production.
The B.S. degree in Broadcasting will present you with the opportunity to major in one of three emphases. All three areas will ground you in a core of courses that will provide a comprehensive perspective on the broadcast industry. You can choose from Administration, Information or Production.
1. The Administration Curriculum prepares you for advertising and supervisory positions. In addition to major courses that consider sales, economics, ratings, programming, and management, you will complete work in the Georgia Southern College of Business to add depth to your preparation.
2. The Information Curriculum will prepare you for positions as broadcast journalists, sports reporters, or meteorologists. Along with additional study in journalism, in this emphasis you will complete course work -- dependent upon your choice of specialization -- in political science, sports management, English, or other supportive academic areas.
3. The Production Curriculum prepares you for employment as camera operators, audio producers, editing, lighting designers, or video director. You will complete courses to develop these skills as well as study in ancillary areas such as art, information technology, and/or film.
