The Journalism program provides knowledge of the evolving issues that journalists must cover in today’s society. The program includes newspapers, specialty publications, magazines, on-line publications. The Journalism core curriculum is strongly grounded in the liberal arts, while the major courses provide students with a balance of the practical and theoretical aspects of the discipline. The curriculum has been modified to reflect the growing trend within the media industry toward convergence. Students will be well prepared to deliver information across diverse platforms. Journalism students are encouraged to pursue their interests as paid staff members with The George-Anne newspaper and The Southern Reflector magazine, where they write, edit, and manage the publications on a daily basis. Students are also encouraged to apply for internships where they can gain professional experience.
