WritLing_IconThe Department of Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern University presents award-winning author Phong Nguyen on Thursday, October 30, at 6 p.m. in the University’s Carroll Building, Room 2227. The event is free and open to the public.

Nguyen is a fiction writer. His first story collection, Memory Sickness, won the Elixir Press Fiction Award, and his recently published second collection, Pages from the Textbook of Alternate History, has received critical acclaim. Nguyen works with poet Wayne Miller to edit Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing and Reviews and teaches fiction courses at the University of Missouri.

“Phong Nguyen’s writing is full full of historical and cultural references, including his own experiences as a Vietnamese-American,” said Emma Bolden, a poetry professor and coordinator of Nguyen’s visit. “Those who attend his reading will gain new perspectives, no matter their area of study.”
