Summer Studios 2008 Session Information
Week 1: June 22 – June 26
Georgia Artists: Materials, Themes, and Artists in the Georgia Artists Collection
The artworks in the Georgia Artists Collection on view at the Center for Art & Theatre are made from materials native to the state, by an artist associated with the state, or are about the state of Georgia. Summer Studio artists will investigate the themes and materials used by these artists with Georgia roots to create their own collection of artworks made in right here in Statesboro, Georgia. Visits to a Georgia Artist’s studio downtown will provide a rich experience as Summer Studios Artists collaborate with him to create a painting of our hometown.
Week 2: June 29 – July 3
Think Green: Folk Art and Found Object Graphic Design
Summer Studio Artists will be inspired by the amazing creativity of the folk artists in the Smith Callaway Banks Southern Folk Art Gallery at Georgia Southern University. During part of their day in the studio, students will produce artwork using the same methods and materials folk artists use to create fascinating artworks. The other part of students’ imaginative day will be spent in the design studios, where they will develop the design skills and create a marketing graphics to encourage recycling—like a folk artist does with found objects.
Week 3: July 6 – July 10
