Student Organizations

Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art student organizations encourage involvement in the art world through field trips, visiting artist lectures and residencies, film programs, specialty workshops, seminars in professional practices, annual sales and exhibition events, attendance at professional conferences, or service to the profession and community.

Sponsored by faculty, these groups not only involve students in their community and their profession, but with one another. Through these student organization experiences students expand their artistic and social interests while networking and investing in their profession.

BFSDoArt Student Organizations include:
  • Club Mud
  • The Design Group (DG)
  • Graphics & Printing Association (GPA)
  • Jewelry Guild
  • Student Art League (SAL)

It offers a place and time to research and have discussions on historical and contemporary art as well as sponsoring lectures or demonstrations by visiting artists. Club Mud also manages the  Empty Bowls event each fall with proceeds going to the Statesboro Food Bank. The Design Group at Georgia Southern, more affectionately called “The DG”, was started by eager graphic design students with a thirst for knowledge and the pursuit of originality. Using the group as a supplement to our classes, the DG seek to examine many forms and styles of design around the community, nation and world in order to compete on a more global scale. DG members sharpen their skills and concepts with critiques, expand their business sense with freelance projects, and raise funds to attend design exhibitions. This group is an outlet for our abundant creative energy created by and for students who live design. DG members are active online and off. Be sure to visit all of their outlets to gain better knowledge about all they have to offer.

The Student Art League is a student organization dedicated to serving the university, providing benefits for its members, and-most importantly-promoting the arts at Georgia Southern University. We serve the university and community by providing our participation in events, volunteer activities, and by creating a sense of community between fellow art enthusiasts. We share the benefits of the club with our members, which include art demonstrations, trips to various locales, and social gatherings which all include observing or practicing the arts. Our most important goal is promoting the arts and a sense of community through fun excursions and get-togethers where we can enjoy each other’s company while experimenting with new mediums or experiencing new locations. This club is open to both non-art majors and art majors alike, and we highly encourage you to join if you are a fan of the arts!

Goals

  •  Promoting the arts at Georgia Southern University
  •  Experimenting with new and old mediums
  •  Learning about the professional aspects of art
  •  Visiting locations of interest to the members
  •  Creating a sense of community through the arts
