Art Education

*The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art and College of Education are not accepting new students into the Masters of Education in Art Education degree program at this time.*

Master of Art in Teaching (MAT)
As of 2006 the MAT degree has replaced the traditional BSEd.

Candidates seeking initial teacher certification in the MAT graduate degree program will learn to plan, implement, and evaluate art education programming for grades PreK - 12 in methods and practicum coursework. Theoretical and pedagogical issues such as the history of art education; state and national standards for the teaching of visual arts; artistic development; and classroom management strategies are addressed as well. Valuable teaching experience is gained by working with children in public schools, community centers, after school programs, museums and other alternative settings during the internship component of the degree program.

Master of Education in Art Education (MEd)
The Master of Education with an emphasis in Art Education degree enriches and extends the knowledge base of certified practicing art teachers. By providing opportunities for analysis of current pedagogical issues and trends in PreK - 12 art education, including curriculum theory, nature, and conditions of learning, research methodology and discipline based art education, the MEd graduate is prepared for leadership roles in art education.
