Onyile Bassey Onyile, Ph.D., Binghamton University, MFA, graphic design/history of art, is a professor of graphic design in the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art.

An experienced educator, Onyile has taught in higher education for nearly 30 years. He has served as the associate chair of the Department, director of the master of Fine Arts program, and co-coordinated the bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design degree at Georgia Southern University.

Onyile continues research and publication projects, including Ancestral Spirits Embodied in Ekpu Figurines of the Oron People: A Study of an African Society (220 pages accepted Lewiston, NY and Ceredigton, England), Edwin Mellen Press, 2007; “Secrecy: Nnabo Masquerade in Calabar, Nigeria” in African Arts, forthcoming; and his own publication, Spiritual Metaphor: Art History, Material and Visual Culture of an African Society, Satton Books, England, forthcoming.

Onyile has earned various awards, honors, grants, and fellowships around the world for his design work and research.
