& Assistant Professor of Art
Jason Hoelscher, MFA, is the Gallery Director and Assistant Professor of Art at the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt). Hoelscher is currently working on his PhD in Art Theory and Aesthetics, from the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. He received his MFA in Painting from the Pratt Institute in 2000. Hoelscher’s paintings deal with attention span and the articulation and negotiation of opposed qualities.
Hoelscher’s gallery experience was gained most recently as the Assistant Director of the Susan Sheehan Gallery in New York, NY. He also has experience teaching Painting, Theory, Foundations, and Topological Studies since 2007 from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA as well as Philosophy at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts in Portland, ME.
Jason exhibits his work nationally and internationally – venues include Paris, Hong Kong, Denver, Marfa, New York and Berlin, while publishing widely as an arts writer, theorist and critic.
