Oursler Sculpture Highlights Rotary Property in Macomb

Master of Fine Arts Graduate Duke Oursler

Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art Master of Fine Art Graduate, Duke Oursler is gathering a fan base at his new home in Macomb, Illinois. Duke is an Assistant Professor for Western Illinois University where he was commissioned to create a sculpture for green space on Macomb’s West Jackson Street, he looked to the “character of the community” for inspiration.

Being new to Macomb, everyone talks about the train and Macomb’s history as a railroad town,” Oursler said. “The railroad itself is a conduit to America; it’s a way we stay connected. I wanted to develop a concept for the sculpture so the railroad was recognizable.

Oursler worked for four months on his sculpture with his sculpture class by his side as apprentices. Read the full press release about Oursler on the Western Illinois University website.
